At the Walk It Off NI Mothership, we know that good food and movement are intrinsic to health. It’s not belief, it’s fact.

There is a reason your Apple Watch and your Garmin get you to stand up and move regularly. Think of it, if you exercise for one hour it’s really great. But what about the 23 hours a day you sit still? This is a concern. With Alexa and Hue, we collate the shopping list, ring people, turn on the telly and off the lights. It’s fantastic technology doing incredible things but it means we get up and down less and less. That movement is vital. So get some top tips for festive cheer. Here.

First, look at the ‘2022 Ireland North and South Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and Adolescents’. Our kids need to move more. So do we! https://research.hscni.net/sites/default/files/PA-Report-card-summary-final.pdf

Streaming services like Netflix and Amazon let you watch hours, days, even months of series back-to-back. Without really moving from your seat.

It’s easy, but it isn’t great for your mental or physical wealth at all.

This Christmas, make a pact with health.

Walk and move more. Deliver your cards on foot to the neighbours. You don’t even need to go in! Seeing a friendly face on the doorstep, makes all the difference to a day and you will feel good too. You can even walk to the pub.

Get outside somewhere beautiful. If there is one thing that we learned during the pandemic is that nature connection works.

Walking outdoors transforms your mood, lifts your spirits and boosts your immunity. If you do it together its a fabulous way to clear the air or catch up with friends.
